Bellator MMA has scheduled its first event for 2020, billed as Bellator 239, for February 22 (AEST) in Thackerville, OK. The headline-bout features Ed Ruth up against Yaroslav Amosov, squaring off at welterweight. The co-headliner is a lightweight encounter between Brandon Girtz and Myles Jury.
The representative of the country-host Ed Ruth (8-1) is a three-time NCAA wrestling national champion. He is coming off the win by split decision scored against Jason Jackson at Bellator 231 in October. Before that he stopped Kiichi Kunimoto in Round 2.
Undefeated Ukrainian Yaroslav Amosov (22-0) won his previous bout in August by submission in the second round against David Rickels. Prior to that he earned a unanimous decision against Erick Silva and Gerald Harris.
American Brandon Girtz (16-8) was last seen in action in March when he scored a unanimous decision against Saad Awad, rebounding from the defeat by submission in the first round against Michael Chandler.
His countryman Myles Jury (17-5) lost three bouts is a row. In two of his previous outings he dropped a unanimous decision against Bendon Henderson and Andre Fili. Before that he was stopped by Chad Mendes in Round 1. His most recent win was late 2017 when he earned a unanimous decision against Rick Glenn. Jury was riding the 15-fight win streak since 2008 till 2015, when he suffered the first defeat in his professional MMA career against Donald Cerrone by unanimous decision.
